AUCTION 'ARTWORKS & ANTIQUES' ON 5-6TH SEPTEMBER 2008 Our Art Nouveau section deserves special attention ? already during the first auction of Hargesheimer & Günther, this section particularly attracted the attention of many bidders. An extremely rare item, possibly the only one of its kind manufactured for a World Fair in the workshop of Richard Riemerschmid, is this perfectly shaped propeller mirror ? the highlight among the Art Nouveau lots (Reserve price: ? 5,300). A comprehensive collection of extremely rare and significant porcelain figures of the Schwarzburger Werkstätten came to our premises from a private collector from Lower Saxony. With the 'Sitting tiger with antelope head', we will auction a figure with a form that has not been found in any auctioneer's catalogue so far (Reserve price: ? 320). Porcelain items of the Factories Meißen, KPM-Berlin, Rosenthal, Jugendstilfiguren von Alfred König, Konrad Hentschel, Willi Neuhäuser; glass objects of Legras & Cie, Emile Gallé, Andre Delatte, Daum Frères (Nancy), the Cristallerie de Croismare, Wilhelm Kralik, Fachschule Zwiesel, Gräflich Harrachsche Glasfabrik Neuwelt, Josephinenhütte, Lötz Wwe., Moser, Muller-Frères, Pallme König & Habel, Steinschönau; and silver items by Georg Jensen, Bruckmann and Thedor Müller, Weimar ensure interesting bidding battles.
The 'Silver Items' section not only features a rare decorative pot my Master Johann Georg Kloße made between 1743 and 1745 in Augsburg (Reserve price: ? 3,800), but also a precious pair of Empire-style candelabras of Master Johann David Klose from the time around 1820 (Reserve price: ? 2,200). The 'Orientalia' section features an item of particular rarity value ? a watercolour painting of Abanindranath Tagore (1871-1951). The 'Temple scene with musicians' comes with first-class provenance and was a personal gift of Noble prize winner Rabindranath Tagore to renowned anthropologist Prof. Dr. Dr. Egon Freiherr von Eichstedt, who was living in Calcutta for many years. This gem of outstandingly high quality is one of the absolute highlights of this auction of Hargesheimer & Günther (Reserve price: ? 12,000). With more than 200 lots, the porcelain items on offer are numerous and diverse ? the offer includes, above all, Meissen china from three centuries including a rare ensemble with milk jug and sugar bowl from the early days of the Meissen Manufactory (Reserve price: ? 3,500). Chinese porcelain of almost all epochs, a collection of Japanese 'Netsuke', temple sculptures from Thailand and China, bronze sculptures, oriental artisan craftwork, and a collection of Balinese artists (I Gusti Nyoman Lempad and others) make up the 150 lots on offer in the Oriental Art section.
Our 'Jewellery' section offers the right gem for every occasion ? beautiful, precious items that make women's eyes shine and men digging deep into their pockets... Here, Hargesheimer & Günther offer more than 250 items that span from baroque to modern design. Perfectly cut diamonds and elegant pearls were always the right thing to touch women's hearts. One can only hope that the men become aware of their hopeless situation ? as an old Latin saying goes: Amantes amentes ? being in love means being out of control!
