Old Master Paintings
Meet the Specialist – Frank Hargesheimer

Frank Hargesheimer first established his connection to the international art trade in 1988, laying the foundation for a career in the art world that has now spanned more than three decades.

After his initial years as the founder of an art gallery for international art in Braunschweig (from 1990), he studied Art History at the Universities of Göttingen and Braunschweig, as well as Mathematics at the Technical University of Braunschweig, where he obtained the pre-diploma, equivalent to today’s Bachelor level. In 1999, he successfully completed his studies with the Magister Artium (M.A.) in Art History, Mathematics, and Political Science.

He received his auctioneer’s license as early as 1995, becoming one of the youngest auctioneers of his generation. Since 1999, he has been active as an art dealer in Düsseldorf, specializing in Old Master paintings and international fine art.

In 2007, together with his business partner Maik Günther, he founded the auction house Hargesheimer & Günther GmbH in Düsseldorf, which has since developed into one of Germany’s leading venues for high-quality art auctions.

As an auctioneer and expert, Frank Hargesheimer combines profound art-historical knowledge with long-standing market experience. His particular interest lies in the study and evaluation of Old Master paintings, whose historical context, provenance, and aesthetic depth have fascinated him since the beginning of his career. For him, the auction world represents a place of vivid exchange between scholarship, passion, and the art market—a forum where art-historical insight meets the excitement of discovery and the joy of connecting exceptional works with discerning collectors.
