AN IMPORTANT AND LARGE ICON SHOWING THE VLADIMIRSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD Russian, Moscow, Alexander Lukin Panov, 1762 Tempera on wood panel. Supporting Christ and gesturing to him with her left hand, the Child embracing her and touching his cheek to her face while gazing into her eyes. The faces rendered with saturated nuances, Christ's red tunic and complimentary green band highlighted with gold striations. The Mother of God's maroon maphorion accented by dark lines and an orange hem. Her head is covered with a golden veil with pearl incrustation. On the left border St. Luke the Evangelist ist represented under an ogee arch. Finely executed in great detail on a shiny golden ground. On the lower border and on the reverse Cyrillic inscription: 'This 'Vladimirskaya' is painted in Moscow 24. December 1762 by Alexander Lukin Pavlov'. Minimally worn, minimally restored. 66.3 x 43 cm.
