Sydney Ashkenzie statet: “…The hairwork of the coiffure is finely rendered with an elaborate knotted design. A pony-tail is seen hanging down her back, and she is wearing large ball earrings. Her facial features and hands are delicately carved and emanate a very serene countenance. In order to get this type of large sized carving, the coral branch had to be considerably larger than the finished piece. The red -orange colouring of this material indicates that it is quite rare. Coral of this colour is normally associated with jewelry. This is the largest piece of flawless coral that we have encountered to date. The subject matter was inspired by the sixth century Chinese Jang pottery design.
