A detailed bronze statue of a seated Buddha on an elaborately decorated lotus throne. The Buddha wears a traditional robe and a crown, sitting in a meditation posture with his right arm raised and his hand resting flat on his knee. The background is uniformly dark, highlighting the statue.

Description

Shakyamuni is seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base with the right hand in bhumisparsha mudra and the left hand in dhyana mudra. The figure is dressed in a robe with finely carved floral patterns along the hems. Part. damaged, with traces of age and gilding. Comparable to a seated figure of Tathagata Buddha (ID36818) in the collection of the Museum für Asiatische Kunst in Berlin and a seated figure of Medicine Buddha (lot 637) sold at Christie's New York in March 2018. Both are slightly smaller than this lot. Provenance: From a private collection in southern Germany.
